Emergency Medicine Clerkship

Senior medical students participating in this 4-week clerkship (EM 140.01) will act as interns at San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center and UCSF Medical Center evaluating and managing patients with "undifferentiated" emergencies and urgencies. Students practice procedural skills and learn to recognize, resuscitate, and stabilize seriously ill patients. EM faculty provide direct supervision and bedside teaching. Students work clinical shifts, attend didactic lectures, participate in suture, splinting, emergency eye exam, and ultrasound workshops, and engage in toxicology and prehospital medicine experiences at the SF Poison Control Center and with SF EMS.

For information on applying to the UCSF-SFGH rotations as a visiting student, please go to the UCSF SOM Visiting Students website and the UCSF SOM Visiting Students - Emergency Medicine website. Please note that we require your USMLE Step 1 score report and a letter of recommendation from a faculty member with whom you have worked clinically.
