Dr. Cortlyn Brown receives Chancellor Award for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Leadership

Dr. Cortlyn Brown, third-year resident of the UCSF-ZSFG Emergency Medicine Residency Program, was one of three recipients of the Chancellor Award for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Leadership. Dr. Brown is being recognized for her dedication to increasing opportunities for a diverse and inclusive workforce in medicine and her outstanding commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. A few of her many accomplishments include:

1. National Vice President of the Student National Medical Association (SNMA), the largest student-run organization dedicated to the needs of
    underrepresented ethnic minority students.

2. Chair of the UCSF-ZSFG Emergency Medicine Diversity Committee
    a. Compiles diversity newsletter
    b. Organizes and manages resident DEI/outreach projects

3. Invited Speaker and Co-Organizer of a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion workshop at the 2018 SAEM National Convention titled "Bridging the Gap and
    Strengthening Our Community: Building Our Understanding of Microaggressions, Implicit Bias and Cultural Humility"

4. Co-Designer of the Diversity Equity & Inclusion Resident Curriculum
