How We Care Shapes Who We Are. Our EM residents, faculty, and staff participated in a mural project to thank the community for their support during the pandemic. The project was organized by the Paint the Void initiative and Radici Studios.

How We Care Shapes Who We Are. Our EM residents, faculty, and staff participated in a mural project to thank the community for their support during the pandemic. The project was organized by the Paint the Void initiative and Radici Studios.

We support our residents in a number of ways including but not limited to the following residency funded events:

  1. Advisor Families
    • Each family consists of one member of each residency class and 2-3 faculty advisors
    • Families meet for dinner 3 times per year to check in with one another, provide peer-to-peer mentorship, and faculty support
  2. Areas of Distinction  (faculty and peer mentorship culminating in an area of expertise and an associated scholarly project)
  3. Interest Groups
  4. Annual Senior Resident (R4) Retreat (Fall)
    • Preparation for job/fellowship searches
    • CV & coverletter review
    • Networking
  5. Annual Resident (R1-R3) Retreat (Spring)
    • Holistic review of residency didactics, clinical rotations, faculty
    • Team building
  6. Systems Based Practice
    • Monthly sessions during weekly didactics to address programmatic needs
    • Monthly evening events arranged by Chief Residents specifically to address resident wellness
    • Annual Bay Area Emergency Medicine joint residency wellness events with Highland and Stanford EM Programs
  7. Department of Emergency Medicine Circle of Respect (Caring for the Caregivers) Dinners
  8. Service to Our Community
  9. Participation in regional and national competitions (Sim Wars, Sonogames)
  10. UCSF Emergency Medicine Alumni Reunion (proceeds support resident travel awards for domestic and international training opportunities - Make a Gift Here)
