Areas of Focus

Emergency Medicine is a broad field and our faculty have a number of clinical and research interests. Areas of existing research expertise within our new department already include cardiac arrest, pre-hospital EMS care (including stroke diagnosis and management), point-of-care ultrasound, health policy (especially ED crowding, ambulance diversion, utilization of the ED by indigents, and health disparities), procedural sedation, infectious disease management (including The Joint Commission standards for antibiotic administration), to name a few. Our global health initiative has taken us to Tanzania and Chiapas, both establishing emergency medicine residencies and studying the value of bedside ultrasound in third world clinical settings.
