Dr. William Whetstone discusses Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Research Priorities

Dr. William Whetstone, Professor of Clinical Emergency Medicine, represented Emergency Medicine at the "SCI 2020: Planning for a Decade for Disruption in Spinal Cord Injury Research" conference held February 12 at the National Institutes of Health campus in Bethesda, Maryland. He was on a panel that will help determine the spinal cord injury research priorities for the next five to ten years. 

Dr. Nida Degesys Receives 2018 SAEM Resident Educator Award

Dr. Nida Degesys received the prestigious 2018 SAEM Resident Educator Award at the SAEM Annual Meeting in Indianapolis on May 17. This award is given to a single resident in the country and "recognizes an SAEM resident who has demonstrated exceptional aptitude and passion for teaching during residency."

Quarterly Bedside Teaching Award

Dr. Jeanne Noble for UCSF, Dr. Dan Repplinger for SFGH (pictured at left), and Dr. Dina Wallin for PEM are the 2nd Quarter Bedside Teaching Award winners for 2017-18. Our EM residents honor faculty members for their teaching abilities each quarter (PEM is semi-annual) by recognizing the ED Attending at each site who stands out for their bedside teaching skills and ability to provide constructive feedback to the EM residents.

Dr. Hardy's proposal for "Care of the Homeless at UCSF: Better Care, Faster Placement, Less Cost" was one of five winners selected from 63 submmitted ideas to the UCSF Center for Healthcare Value and UCSF Health contest.

Jacqueline M. Grupp-Phelan, MD, MPH, Appointed Division Chief and Vice Chair for Pediatric Emergency Medicine

Dr. Grupp-Phelan will also serve as the Department of Emergency Medicine vice chair for Pediatric Emergency Medicine. She is currently the Richard Ruddy and Barbara Wriston-Ruddy Professor of Pediatrics and director of research of the Division of Emergency Medicine at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.
