Patient Care

The Department of Emergency Medicine provides clinical care at the UCSF Helen Diller Medical Center at Parnassus Heights (UCSF), UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital at Mission Bay, UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland and Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital & Trauma Center (ZSFG) in San Francisco, and at Community Regional Medical Center (CRMC) in Fresno.

ZSFG and Fresno's CRMC are Level I trauma centers. UCSF, ZSFG and CRMC are designated stroke centers, and UCSF and CRMC are designated receiving hospitals for acute myocardial infarction offering 24/7 availability of primary PTCA.

House staff from emergency medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics and surgery rotate through our emergency departments. Board certified attending physicians are present to supervise care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, as well as provide direct patient care. Mid-level practitioners (physician's assistants and nurse practitioners) also provide care. Highly trained faculty, plus the availability of consultation from a wide range of specialty services, allows us to provide high-quality care for patients with simple to highly complex and serious illnesses.
