UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital San Francisco

The UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital San Francisco Emergency Department treats infants, children and adolescents with serious illnesses or injuries. As part of San Francisco's only children's hospital, we provide the highest-quality emergency care in a state-of-the-art space designed just for kids. We are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

We offer:

  • Equipment designed for children and their unique needs
  • Child life specialists to help decrease the anxiety kids experience in the hospital while helping them understand their treatment

  • An air ambulance to transport critically-ill patients from all over Northern California to our rooftop helipad, the only operational hospital helipad in San Francisco
  • An ACGME accredited Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship program

Get Involved with the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital San Francisco Child Passenger and Pedestrian Safety (ChiPPS) Program

The UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital San Francisco Child Passenger and Pedestrian Safety (ChiPPS) Program is an injury prevention initiative dedicated to reducing transportation-related injuries and fatalities among children and families throughout San Francisco and the greater Bay Area. Supported through a $250,000 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) via the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the program provides education, outreach, safety equipment, and community engagement focused on keeping children safe on the road, in vehicles, and within their neighborhoods.

UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals Rank Among Nation’s Best for 2025-2026

UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals tied again as the best in Northern California for pediatric care in the 2025-2026 U.S. News & World Report Best Children’s Hospitals list. 

This is the eighth year in a row that UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals have been recognized among the nation’s best children’s hospitals in all specialty areas. The Oakland and San Francisco hospitals are ranked together as one entity, reflecting the comprehensive system of pediatric care that UCSF Health provides to families and communities in the Bay Area and beyond. The integration of the two hospitals supports a stronger infrastructure for high-quality clinical services and expands access to seamless, equitable care for patients on both sides of the Bay.
