Giving

Philanthropy plays a crucial role in supporting the UCSF Department of Emergency Medicine. Your generosity helps us deliver outstanding, equitable care to every patient regardless of their ability to pay for services, conduct cutting-edge research that has the power to transform clinical practice and patient outcomes, and educate the next generation of emergency medicine leaders.

How You Can Help

There are many ways to support our work: one-time or recurring gifts, pledges, planned giving (such as trusts and bequests), and endowments. You may choose to give directly to our department fund or designate your support to a specific program or initiative.

Department of Emergency Medicine Fund

Your support helps us do more — more for our patients, more for our community, and more for the future of emergency medicine. Gifts to the Department of Emergency Medicine directly strengthen the work of our physicians, nurses, staff, and faculty as they provide world-class care, lead life-saving research, and train the next generation of emergency medicine professionals. Every contribution fuels our mission to deliver exceptional care when it’s needed most.

Support our continued commitment to excellence.

Emergency Medicine Residency Program

The UCSF Emergency Medicine Residency Program is nationally recognized for excellence. The program is home to the top emergency medicine residents in the country, who are attracted to us not only by our extraordinary breadth of research and clinical faculty but also by the diversity of San Francisco’s population and UCSF’s prominence as a model of community service and provision of care to under-served communities.

Residency — the years of clinical training immediately following the completion of medical school — is a formative time for young physicians. In residency, residents learn the basics of patient care, as well as leadership and communication skills, cross-cultural competency, and research methods, among other skills necessary to ensure their success in the field. Your support helps us invest in their mentorship, professional development, and well-being.

Empower the next generation of emergency medicine leaders

Michael L. Callaham, MD, Endowed Professorship in Emergency Medicine

Established in honor of Dr. Michael Callaham, the founding chair of the UCSF Department of Emergency Medicine, this endowment recognizes his profound contributions to the field of emergency medicine and his lasting impact on UCSF.

For more than 35 years, Dr. Callaham shaped the evolution of emergency medicine in San Francisco, cared for thousands of patients, and mentored countless faculty and trainees. This fund — our department’s first endowed professorship — ensures his legacy continues to inspire innovation, leadership, and excellence in emergency medicine.

Help us honor Dr. Callaham’s vision and leadership
