In addition to the emergency department, attending physicians from the Department of Emergency Medicine staff UCSF Health Urgent Care Mission Bay. Our physicians are residency-trained and board-certified/-eligible in emergency medicine. They work with other experts at UCSF Health Urgent Care Mission Bay, including physicians trained in family medicine and internal medicine, to evaluate and treat urgent but non-life-threatening illnesses or injuries in adults (18+).
UCSF Health Urgent Care Mission Bay is located within the Bayfront Medical Building and is open seven days a week. Our emergency medicine physicians do not offer emergency services at the clinic. It is strictly for the same-day treatment of acute medical issues, including:
- Abdominal pain
- Bronchitis
- Headache
- Ear infections
- Joint and muscle pain
- Minor injuries
- Simple procedures, including suturing
- Skin infections
- Urinary tract infections, vaginitis and urethritis
Emergency care
People who think they're experiencing a life-threatening or severe condition should call 911 or go directly to the nearest emergency department. Since it began serving patients on August 28, 2024, UCSF Health Urgent Care Mission Bay (formerly UCSF Bayfront Urgent Care) has become an integral part of San Francisco’s health care infrastructure. In its first year alone, UCSF Health Urgent Care Mission Bay had more than 129,000 patient visits, including nearly 15,300 primary care visits, more than 26,000 urgent care visits, 20,200-plus physical therapy sessions, nearly 7,800 outpatient surgeries, and over 2,900 eye surgeries.
When UCSF Health opened its Bayfront Medical Building in August 2024, the inclusion of an urgent care clinic presented an exciting new offering for the health system, the UCSF Department of Emergency Medicine, and the local community.
