Key Initiatives

Introduction to Emergency Medicine Elective (Emergency Medicine 170.10)
This elective, held in the winter, provides students with foundational insights into Emergency Medicine through engaging lunch talks delivered by faculty at the School of Medicine.

Immersive Procedure Workshops
These hands-on workshops allow students to develop essential skills in a supportive, guided environment. Activities include suturing, ultrasound, intubation, and CPR training, often integrated with case-based learning for practical application.

EMIG Symposium
UCSF hosts the annual Northern California EMIG Symposium each fall, uniting students and residents from universities and hospitals across Northern California. The event includes case-based workshops, dynamic lectures, a career panel on EM pathways, and opportunities for networking.

Faculty Panels
EMIG organizes panels featuring faculty and residents with diverse training backgrounds. Students can learn about fellowships in areas such as wilderness medicine, ultrasound, toxicology, innovation in EM, and critical care, with opportunities to ask questions and explore different EM subfields.

Meet-and-Greet Mixer
Each fall, EMIG hosts a mixer for students to connect with EM residents and attendings from the ZSFG and UCSF Emergency Departments. This event offers early exposure to the field of Emergency Medicine and networking opportunities.

Resident-Student Mentorship Match
Fourth-year medical students can participate in a mentorship program, pairing with UCSF/SFGH EM residents for personalized guidance. Mentors provide advice on residency applications and insights into pursuing a career in Emergency Medicine.
