Peter Sokolove, MD, FACEP, is the new chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine, effective September 1, 2013. Dr. Sokolove received his BS from UCLA and his MD from Harvard Medical School. He completed residency training in emergency medicine at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. He is a fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians, where he served as California chapter president for the 2011-12 term.
Dr. Sokolove has just completed his Robert Wood Johnson Health Policy Fellowship where he worked for the Committee on Finance in the United States Senate. He was formerly professor and vice chair for academic affairs in the department of emergency medicine at UC Davis. Throughout his career, he has worked to improve the quality of emergency care through education, research, and health policy development. He has authored or co-authored more than 100 publications and research abstracts in clinical care, medical education, and health policy, lectured widely, and has been recognized with multiple national educational awards for his commitment to excellence in academic emergency medicine.
