Jillian Mongelluzzo, MD, MAEd, Named Academy Chair in Emergency Medicine Education
The UC San Francisco Department of Emergency Medicine is pleased to announce the appointment of Jillian Mongelluzzo, MD, MAEd (pictured), for a five-year term as the Academy Chair in Emergency Medicine Education, effective July 1, 2026.
This endowed chair is one of a select group of chairs housed within the UCSF Haile T. Debas Academy of Medical Educators and reserved exclusively for Academy members. It was specifically created to further enrich the education of UCSF medical students and residents, with the goal of cultivating future leaders in emergency medicine through innovation.
Following a competitive search process, Dr. Mongelluzzo was selected in recognition of her longstanding commitment to medical education and student, trainee, and faculty development. Throughout her career, she has distinguished herself as a passionate advocate for learners and educators alike, with a deep commitment to fostering supportive, people-centered educational environments anchored in compassion and fueled by a vision for what education could be. This includes her roles as assistant program director for the UCSF-ZSFG Emergency Medicine Residency Program and director of the department’s Medical Education Fellowship – positions she has held since 2016 and 2019, respectively.
As part of her vision for the endowed chair, Dr. Mongelluzzo will develop a departmental coaching program to better support trainees and educators and strengthen leadership development in medical education. Her vision reflects both a thoughtful understanding of the evolving landscape of residency education and a commitment to advancing educational excellence across our department.
We would also like to express our sincere gratitude to Shruti Kant, MBBS, who has served with distinction as Academy Chair since 2022. During her term, Dr. Kant advanced important work to strengthen teaching in the ED through workplace-based faculty development initiatives. Her contributions have had a meaningful impact across our department, and we are deeply grateful for her leadership and service.
