Emergency Medicine Ultrasound Elective

This elective offers medical students the opportunity to build a solid foundation in point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS). Students learn the appropriate indications for various applications, how to perform each study, interpret their findings, and integrate POCUS into clinical care. They will also perform supervised diagnostic ultrasound exams and ultrasound-guided procedures on patients in the emergency department, participate in didactic sessions, and review recent medical literature on POCUS.

**This elective is only open to fourth-year medical students. Visiting students are asked to submit a letter of recommendation from faculty they have worked with clinically to [email protected][email protected] , Education programs analyst. Preference is given to those seeking careers in emergency medicine.

Please note that this two-week rotation does not count as a formal residency interview. Rotators interested in the UCSF-ZSFG Emergency Medicine Residency Program will still need to apply for a residency interview.
