African Federation of Emergency Medicine Pediatric Emergency Medicine Curriculum Development

Collaboration with pediatric emergency medicine (PEM) and global health experts in the development of an open-access, online PEM curriculum for two different tiers of emergency care providers.

Designed a questionnaire for member countries’ Health Ministries on time from road traffic accident occurrence and first professional medical care

World Health Organization Emergency Medical Services Standards Program

Assisted with emergency medical services (EMS) dispatch standards and the production of the clinical protocols and administrative policies documents for EMS in low- and middle income countries from 2017 to 2019. Also helped develop the Basic Ambulance Provider Course, which first piloted in Port Sudan in December 2023.

Crisis Training Center and Emergency Medicine Residency Program, Kaunas University Hospital, Lithuania

Emergency medicine residency program educational support and assessment of: a district hospital emergency department, the Kaynas University Hospital’s geriatric programs, and a meeting with the Deputy Health Minister of Lithuania to review their medical disaster program overall status, training, and supplies/equipment.

Multifaceted partnership with Muhimbili Hospital in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, involving the provision of pediatric emergency medicine clinical and educational support. A Review of Emergency and Critical Care Services in United States-Mexico Border Communities

Long-term goal is to improve binational collaborations for emergency and critical care for underserved populations, especially immigrant populations, along the United States-Mexico border. Project helps derive a better understanding of the challenges faced by border communities and healthcare providers by conducting a multi-border site review and analysis of emergency and critical care services and capacity

TB + Leprosy-Free Chuuk Campaign

Collaboration with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and the Chuuk State Department of Health Services to join the TB  + Leprosy Free Chuuk Campaign in the Federated States of Micronesia. This initiative involved conducting mass screenings for active and latent tuberculosis (TB), Hansen’s disease, and diabetes on remote islands accessible only by boat and hiking

Commonwealth Healthcare Corporation Ultrasound Bootcamp

Ultrasound Bootcamp aimed at training physicians and physician associates. The program, supported by rotating UCSF emergency medicine residents, successfully trained 27 participants in ultrasound basics and included pre- and post-training surveys to measure the impact.

Creating a Traditional Healer Surveillance Network in Malawi (MSuN Study)

A pilot study connecting a network of traditional healers in Thyolo District in Malawi to understand how they fit into the biomedical system and their willingness to partner as surveillance sites for the detection of emerging and re-emerging pathogens. We will also pilot the use next-generation sequencing to test for pathogens in a small cohort of participants.
